IntelliCAD and interior design

Using IntelliCAD for interior design

By far the majority of CAD drafting by interior designers is straightforward 2-D drafting. The first two figures below shows several rather typical layout drawings.

2. Domestic building

2-D models can be extruded as wire frame images

These 2-D models can be extruded in the Z direction to create 3-D models as shown in the figure below. Note that the model is a wireframe.

Fig 4

Wireframe models can be rendered in IntelliCAD using the in-built Hitachi renderer.

Provided your copy of IntelliCAD (or AutoCAD) is configured correctly, it is possible to render the image as shown below. Here we have not applied any texture to the surfaces. Choosing softer colours would give a better result.

Move the IntelliCAD model to SketchUp

For ease of viewing (orbiting around the model) you might choose to shift your model into the SketchUp environment. Although I have not done so in the figure below, it is possible to use the materials editor in SketchUp to apply textures to surfaces. You can even use your own materials, pasting photographs and/scanned images onto surfaces.

3rd party renderers

If required (and you have lots of spare computing power at your disposal), it is possible to pass the SketchUp model to 'plug-ins' which can render your model as shown in the images below (taken from the Internet).Fig 13

This level of rendering shown in the latter two figures requires that you install additional software (plug-ins) in the SketchUp environment and/or standalone rendering software. Rendering scenes requires powerful computing resorces and takes a LONG TIME - commonly 24 hr to render an elaborate scene such as this.
